Maruf Raza, Partner, MNP
Maruf Raza, CPA, CA, is the National Director of MNP's Public Companies practice and an Assurance Partner in the Toronto office. Maruf serves as an advisor to public companies, and private companies planning on going public through direct initial public offerings or reverse mergers.
Regarded as a thought leader on International Financial Accounting Standards (IFRS), Maruf has conducted technical research on IFRS and U.S. accounting standards, including being part of the CPA Canada's IFRS Discussion Group and various committees at the Ontario Securities Commission. He has worked in many countries around the globe and specializes in helping finance these companies in Canada, either through public or private transactions. Maruf has extensive experience working with clients in the technology, mining and gaming sectors. He is also involved with investment funds and Exempt Market Dealers.
A 1999 graduate of Ryerson University, Maruf earned his Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) and Chartered Accountant (CA) designations in 2001. Maruf currently serves on the PDAC-CPA Canada joint Mining Task Force. He also serves as a director to a TSX listed company and has been a past board chair of a TSX-V listed company.
Jayshal Daya, Manager, Audit, KPMG
Jayshal Daya has over seven years of extensive audit experience on major clients in the energy, natural resource and industrial sectors. Serving as a committed auditor with the ability to generate and implement effective auditing procedures and evaluate accounting systems for efficiency. He is currently employed as a Manager within audit, at KPMG LLP
Jayshal completed his Bcom Accounting Sciences Degree Cum Lauder (Top 10) in 2008, his BCom Honours in Accounting Sciences and Certificate in the Theory of Accountancy in 2009 at the University of Pretoria.
Ingrid Obendorf, Senior Manager, Grant Thornton
Ingrid Obendorf provides timely practical consulting to clients in various industries with a particular focus on public companies listed on the TSX and TSX-V.
She has several years' experience with the Grant Thornton's accounting standards group, supporting the firm's competency in accounting standards through presentations, publications and internal consultations. Ingrid has significant, hands-on experience in the transition of accounting standards including IFRS and ASPE.
The mining industry continues to go through a difficult period and new accounting challenges have emerged as a result. The CSA's regulatory expectations have evolved, and mining companies continue to struggle with issues like ESTMA, new legislation for crowdfunding and alternative financing, revenue recognition, and proposed changes to taxation for private corporations.
